Pope Francis receives the Declaration of the Alliance of Mother Nature's Guardians from Mindahi Bastida

We are very pleased to announce that Mindahi Bastida, member of the Executive Committee of the Alliance and representative of the Otomi people of Mexico, had the opportunity to hand over the text of the Declaration of the Alliance of the Guardians and Children of Mother Earth to Pope Francis, at the Laudato Si’ International Conference on the Care of Mother Earth and the Future Generations, held at the Vatican this 5th and 6th July.
Thanks to Mindahi’s intervention, the Vatican showed interest in better understanding the issues and dangers of carbon credit projects and is committed to continuing the dialogue with the Alliance on this subject.
In addition to the Declaration, Mindahi Bastida also gave the Pope a second document: the petition of the Center for Earth Ethics asking for the Vatican’s support for indigenous peoples and their mission to protect sacred sites around the world. The petition also calls for the return to the indigenous peoples of artifacts and sacred objects in the possession of the Vatican.
